Week 2: Trending, Lucky, or Just a Slow Starter

The start of the season may bring hope to all teams, and it may not be prudent to overreact after week 1, but as we wrap up now week 2 in the already short fantasy football season, owners are able to begin really evaluating their rosters. If you started 0-2, you either had an unlucky schedule or your team may need some help scoring points. If you started 2-0, you either had a lucky schedule or your team has the ability to put up enough points on a weekly basis to give you a shot.

The year is far from over though. The trade market has been quiet in both leagues despite a few owners publicly listing half their roster as available in trade via the group chat. The waiver wire has seen some activity but still has been fairly quiet because most teams were (and possibly still are) holding out hope for someone on their bench to start producing and were afraid of letting go of a player too soon.

That all is likely to change as we look toward week 3. A series of key injuries around the league, especially at the tight end position, has left several rosters wondering what their options are as they look to address areas of weakness that they once thought would be areas of strength. Savvy owners are trying to stash all the talent and depth they can manage to find in hopes of sitting in the driver's seat for possible deals.

The Glory

Team Scott 115.7, Tulsa CleOkieDokie 131.4
A relatively tight matchup going into Monday but Tulsa CleOkieDokie had already wrapped things up after the Sunday night game, outscoring Team Scott 124.7 to 115.7 while still having Theo Riddick to go on the Monday night game.

It hasn't been pretty the first two weeks for CleOkieDokie but they've gotten out to a 2-0 start despite a lack of true fire power and an inability to use TY Hilton who continues to struggle without Andrew Luck. They have tried to be active on the waiver wire and were rewarded by claiming Buck Allen, who put up 21.1 points against the Cleveland defense. With Danny Woodhead out for awhile, will Allen become a feature piece of the Ravens offense and earn the trust of being started or will this be a flash in the pan performance that can't be counted on?

Team Scott had some strong performances out of the top of the lineup but ultimately was done in by weak outings by Pryor, Cook, and Ginn. There were some points on the bench that could have made this a very competitive week for Scott, potentially even enough to win the matchup, but there are definitely some decisions that need to be made on who to start and whether to continue to carry THREE QUARTERBACKS.

Team Logan 82.1, OG Glory 72.8
After strong week 1 performances by Jordan Howard, Tyreek Hill, and Stefon Diggs, Team Logan ran into a week of misfortune as none of those matched their production in week 2. Travis Kelce was the lone highlight and the team only managed to come away with 82 points, well below the league average.

But OG Glory was not to be outdone and was anything but glorious. An early injury to Jordy Nelson all but sealed the deal that this would not be the Commissioner's week as he falls to 0-2 on the season. While there is still a long schedule to be played, relying on Isaiah Crowell and Shane Vereen and carrying Kenny Britt and Eli Manning on his roster really raises some questions. Is he tanking for next year's top pick or is he just setting up the stage for a dramatic comeback at the end of the season?

NC Naija Nightmare 116, Kams Killers 128.5
An impressive showing by his running back core of Ty Montgomery (who appears to be emerging as a top tier fantasy option in an offense that's struggling to find weapons) and Devonta Freeman got Naija Nightmare off to a hot start, but Michael Crabtree vultured all of Amari Cooper's production and kept him in single digits.

Kams Killers capitalized on his misfortune, rebounding from a week 1 loss behind CJ Anderson's 30 points. It's rare that Zeke Elliot is going to be held to such poor numbers so Kams roster looks strong heading into week 3 although there is plenty of room to improve his depth as his bench didn't inspire a lot of confidence should he need to go to them.

Settle 4 Le$ Sippers 63.7, Cleveland Milf Hunters 117.3
There's not much to say about this matchup. Cleveland Milf Hunters got home from a hard day at work and when his wife told him what Settle 4 Le$ Sippers had been up to, he took off his belt and gave him a whooping that he may not soon forget.

Sippers is reeling from the injury to Odell Beckham Jr. so far this season and unless OBJ gets back to full strength in a hurry, he's going to need to try something to stop the bleeding and get back on track. 63.7 points just simply won't get it done in any league and even if he had played Emmanuel Sanders over Larry Fitzgerald it wouldn't have been very close.

The Milf Hunters go to 2-0 after yet another strong performance from Kareem Hunt, who despite coming back down to earth after his week 1 explosion, still remains at the top of fantasy wish lists across the country. Rob Gronkowski and Martavis Bryant also put up solid scores and it looks like this could be a team worth paying attention to as they ride their star rookie running back as far as he'll take them.

Savageville Got Dammit 106.6, Team Manziel 111.6
After starting the season 0-2 and seeing some red flags with several players on his roster (the Kerwyn Williams experiment might be over already after just 1 week and Jimmy Graham managed just 1 yard on 1 reception on 2 targets), it might be time for Savageville Got Dammit's owner to consider blowing up the roster. When pressed for comment, Savageville said, "Jimmy's injury is a concern yes. Stewart I'm cool with. I see him picking it up but we'll see what happens over the next two weeks. Williams is out. I thought he was going to make moves and he s--t the bed." When asked if he's open for business, the owner said that he would like to acquire a tight end in case Graham isn't playing but doesn't have anyone in mind that he is looking to deal.

Despite only scoring a respectable 111 points this week, Team Manziel is off to a 2-0 start and might be a front runner for team to beat in this league. His bench scored 84 points this week and could have won some matchups in the league. Demarco Murray and Antonio Brown performed below their expectations, leaving Tulsa CleOkieDokie wondering just how ugly their matchup in week 3 might be if Team Manziel fires on all cylinders.

Team Usmc Assassins 139, HOF BIG TYME 122.8
Benching Greg Olsen in favor of the elder Jason Witten proved to be just one of several savvy moves by Team Usmc Assassins as Olsen went down to injury in week 2 and for the foreseeable future. This was a tremendous performance as the Assassins played it as close to perfection as you can get. Tom Brady and Witten are both in the twilights of their careers and they lead the team, filling up the stats sheet. Even Allen Hurns, who struggled last year and has not looked himself in awhile ended up putting up 20 points. This was a matchup that was more about what one team did than about what the other team didn't do.

HOF BIG TYME had a strong effort behind Crabtree's 32 points and a roster that averaged double digits. The only improvement that could have been made would have been to start Carlos Hyde over Christian McCaffrey but again it wouldn't have been enough. This was a strong effort but BIG TYME just ran into a freight train this week.

Any Given Sunday

THE MEDELLIN CARTEL 107, Team Hoagland 150
The Commissioner is a lightning rod for controversy. He invites trash talk and gets fat on a diet of hate from the rest of the league. After a good start out the gate and some good fortune in the form of Zeke's suspension being overturned, Pablo's bravado was getting louder and louder. Jeff Cole of the Pink Ponies, in response to THE MEDELLIN CARTEL's poor performance this week stated, "All good, I was gonna say I hope something bad happens to anyone on your team but none of your players are good enough to even worry about. They're already bad in itself." Despite a strong performance by Travis Kelce and a surprisingly great one by CJ Anderson, the Cartel was done in by Zeke Elliot going hungry against a stingy Denver defense and Sammy Watkins being nothing more than a former name associated with potential that was never lived up to.

Team Hoagland came in to this matchup at 1-0 and despite a poor showing by Terrelle Pryor and less than great game by Marcus Mariota, did very well in beginning to separate from the field in week 2, scoring 150 points and beating the Commissioner fairly handily. TY Montgomery had himself a night and appears to be emerging as a reliable fantasy star in a Packers offense that has once again been bit by the injury bug and is looking for playmakers that Aaron Rodgers can lean on. It's not often that Michael Crabtree puts up more than 30 points but he cashed in on a weak Jets defense and had an efficient day with 6 receptions on 6 targets for 80 yards and 3 touchdowns! While it's unlikely that Crabtree will give Hoagland this kind of game consistently, it appears that he has some solid playmakers who are beginning to hit their stride as we get into the season.

Uncle Brew 77, Kizer Permanente 101
Uncle Brew takes home the honor of lowest score this week behind impressively bad performances by Jimmy Graham and possible fool's gold Kenny Golladay, who became the fantasy football darling after week 1 only to go home alone without a date after producing just 1 point this week. When pressed for comment on his remarkably low score, Uncle Brew said, "I'm pissed."

Kizer Permanente had a poor showing with just 101 points this week but was carried by Drew Brees' 22. The good news is that there were plenty of points left on the bench this week as Randall Cobb shows signs of being back to himself as a favorite target of Aaron Rodgers, Chris Hogan found targets, and Evan Engram is beginning to earn the trust of Eli Manning in an offense that is in desperate need of help. With this depth at wide receiver and a need for a reliable running back they can start on a weekly basis, Permanente may be the perfect trade target for teams with a surplus of running back talent who are looking to pry away a receiver.

Cock Meat Killers 99, Pink Ponies 108
Devonta Freeman and Devante Adams were the lone highlights for the CMK who slid to 1-1 after a strong start out of the gate in week 1. Jordan Howard's 0 points stood out as did Stefon Diggs' 4 points after a huge week 1 showing, no doubt a result of the latest Sam Bradford injury that renders most Minnesota playmakers untrustworthy until he returns. Despite a less than stellar showing by the Ponies, the Cock Meat Killers shot themselves in the dick this week, leaving 37 points on their bench in a brilliant display of incompetence.

The Pink Ponies were playing out the week under protest, arguing that there was a scoring discrepancy before the Monday night game had even kicked off. After confirming that the scoring was accurate, the commissioner insisted that the owners had nothing to worry about when it comes to the integrity of the scoring, but Pink Ponies' owner continued to complain, drawing the ire of the MEDELLIN CARTEL owner who started up the fan club for Sterling Shepard, hoping the young receiver would put up a strong enough performance to drop the Ponies to 0-2. The Ponies roster seems snake bitten by injuries so far and will depend on either trades or quick recoveries going forward.

Team Champ 101, The I480BRIDGE 91
This one was a close matchup. Team Champ once again got strong performances out of Aaron Rodgers and Jason Witten. The newest development is that Carson Wentz has now outscored Rodgers in consecutive weeks, putting up 24 points this week. Is there a QB controversy or will Champ consider entertaining offers for the second year quarterback out of South Dakota?

I480BRIDGE falls to 0-2 after a tough draw this week. Despite strong performances by Tom Brady and Keenan Allen, it just wasn't enough as this one came down to not playing the right guys throughout the rest of the lineup. There were points to be had on the bench and as we head into week 3, they will be faced with some difficult decisions on who to start and who to sit.

AnYwhere BBB 80, Team Da Mob 100
For the second week in a row, rookie running back Leonard Fournette is proving why he was worth a first round pick by a Jaguars offense that is looking to run the ball and keep it out of the hands of Blake Bortles. Alshon Jeffery had a strong performance thanks to Wentz' strong start to the season but there was little else to be encouraged by. There were some points left on the bench for AnYwhere BBB but it wouldn't have been enough to win this matchup.

Da Mob has to be encouraged by the start for Todd Gurley so far as Gurley has managed to score at least 20 points behind the pride of Bedford, Rodger Saffold and the rest of that Rams offensive line. The big blow this week comes with the Greg Olsen injury that Da Mob will have to address going forward with the typically consistent tight end being out for awhile.

The Gold Standard 108, Money Guy 137
The Gold Standard once again failed to live up their now seemingly deceiving name, falling to 0-2. After insisting that Mike Evans return would signal the beginning of a reign of terror on the rest of the league, the Gold Standard failed to account for the rest of their roster underperforming.

Money Guy has to be the team to beat at this point in the season with a 2-0 record on the back of two very convincing victories in large part because of rookie sensation Kareem Hunt. After scoring 138 points in week 1, Money Guy put up 137 in week 2 demonstrating that this is a roster built for consistency. If Odell returns to full strength and the Giants line can keep Eli Manning upright long enough to make some plays, this team only stands to get even better and should truly be the "gold standard" that other teams compare themselves to as they look ahead to the postseason.
